| On
May 28, 1961, British lawyer Peter Benenson wrote a letter in reaction to
the imprisonment of two students in Portugal who had raised their glasses
in a toast to freedom. Benenson's action gave birth to a global human rights
movement which eventually came to be known as Amnesty International. |

Come to a meeting
Halton Hills Group 196
meets the second Wednesday of most months at 7:30 p.m.
This year we will meet in October, November,
April and May.
Other meetings by email!

Some members of Amnesty Halton Hills.
There are Amnesty
International groups across Canada and around the world. We come together from
all walks of life to share in a common purpose: effective, non-partisan
support for human rights.
At meetings, we review current plans and campaigns in a relaxed setting.
Over refreshments we sign prepared letters on behalf of human rights victims, and donate small sums
to help with mailing costs.
You are alway welcome to drop in at a meeting and see if Amnesty is for you.
